PATRICK WAS PROBABLY BORN IN 1894. HE FIRST IMMIGRATED TO NEW CASTLE, PA AND FINALLY TO CHICAGO, IL. HE WOULD SERVE THE USA IN WWI. HE MARRIED JANE SCANLAN OF RAHANISKA, COUNTY CLARE, IRELAND AT ST. AMBROSE CHURCH, CHICAGO, ON DECEMBER 30, 1925. THEY HAD EIGHT CHILDREN: MARY, THOMAS, PATRICK, JEAN, DAVID, JOHN, EMMETT AND ROBERT. FORTUNATELY, HE WAS EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF CHICAGO IN THE WAREHOUSE OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION, AND THROUGHOUT THE DEPRESSION HAD A JOB, THOUGH PAYING LITTLE. DURING THE DEPRESSION, JANE TOOK HER TWO OLDEST CHILDREN WITH HER TO VISIT HER PARENTS IN IRELAND, EVIDENCE THAT THEY HAD A LITTLE MONEY TO FINANCE AN UNUSUAL TRIP. WHEN I ASKED HER WHY SHE STAYED AS LONG AS SHE DID, SHE SAID SHE KNEW THAT WHEN SHE LEFT HER PARENTS THAT IT WOULD BE THE LAST TIME SHE WOULD SEE THEM. NO AIRPLANES THEN, BUT BURIALS WERE WITHIN A DAY UPON A PERSON'S DEATH.
