MARTIN EMIGRATED TO CHICAGO IN 1909. HE LIVED IN THE SAME BOARDING HOUSE OF HIS UNCLE, JOHN JOSEPH LYNCH. MARTIN SERVED IN THE US ARMY IN WORLD WAR I. HE HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS "JOVIAL, PLEASANT AND HAD A HEARTY LAUGH". HE BECAME A RAILROAD ENGINEER. IT WAS IN CHICAGO THAT HE MET AND MARRIED GRETA D'ARCY, A NATIVE OF COUNTY CLARE, IRELAND. THEY BECAME THE PARENTS OF TWO DAUGHTERS, MARGARET AND FRANCES.
